One of the most common complaints in dentistry is food impaction between teeth. At first glance, the problem may seem minor, but it quickly leads to gum inflammation, bad breath, and tooth decay. In this case, the patient also noted sensitivity in tooth 1.6 (upper molar), which increased when consuming cold drinks and solid food.
During the examination, it was revealed that the tooth already had an old restoration that had lost its seal over time and no longer fulfilled its function. A micro-gap had formed in the contact area, where food constantly accumulated. This was the cause of the patient’s complaints.
Treatment performed:
- Removal of the old filling
- Cleaning of the carious cavity
- Placement of a new restoration using a modern composite material with anatomical reconstruction of the contact point
Result: After treatment, the patient no longer experienced food impaction or sensitivity. The tooth was restored not only functionally but also aesthetically, regaining its natural appearance.
Why this matters
Many patients believe that tooth sensitivity is “normal,” and food getting stuck can be tolerated. In reality, such symptoms indicate a loss of tooth or restoration integrity. If left untreated, the situation can progress to deep caries and even tooth loss.
