Muscle palpation
Palpation is a diagnostic method in which a particular part of the patient’s body is palpated, in our case the muscles of the head and neck.
More about the service
The muscles of the head and neck are directly connected to the entire dento-mandibular system. Functions such as chewing, swallowing, speech, and head position are all performed thanks to the human neuromuscular system. And it should be noted that it is the muscles that play a key role in the diagnosis of pathological processes occurring in the masticatory organ. It is problems in the muscular system that make the patient seek help from doctors. Fatigue, spasm and pain in the masticatory muscles or in the neck area – all this may indicate problems in the entire maxillofacial system. This includes taking into account existing posture problems, especially when treating dysfunctional conditions in the oral cavity.
In order to competently analyze the muscular system, it is necessary to know muscle anatomy and function at a very good level. By understanding where a particular muscle is located and how it works, we can find out the cause of dysfunction in the entire dentoalveolar system.

Purpose of this service
The goal is to identify imbalances in the function of the same muscles, but from different angles. The mere presence of pain in a muscle is of secondary interest, but whether the entire muscle system is balanced is of particular importance.
The patient is positioned comfortably. The doctor palpates the muscles symmetrically and evenly, noting the difference in sensation in the patient. We palpate the muscles of the head and neck, as well as the muscles in the oral cavity.
During this examination, special attention is paid to the asymmetry of the face, as well as analyzing the position of the head and neck.
Examination and palpation of the tongue is very important. The tongue is involved in all functions of the dentoalveolar system.
The data obtained are recorded in a special questionnaire and analyzed afterwards
Palpation of the muscles is an accessible and effective method of assessing the condition of the entire dentoalveolar system.
