The child presented with a pronounced narrowing of the upper dental arch and limited space for the eruption of permanent incisors. A unilateral crossbite on the left side, a shift of the lower jaw to the left, and non-coinciding dental midlines were also identified.
In addition, developing facial asymmetry was observed. The incisors met edge to edge, a position that could increase the risk of tooth wear over time.
Why Early Orthodontic Treatment Was Recommended
Although the child did not report discomfort, the identified changes required timely orthodontic correction. Early treatment was recommended to guide jaw growth in a more favourable direction and create space for the correct eruption of permanent teeth.
The main objectives were to widen the upper jaw, reduce the crossbite, improve the position of the lower jaw, and support more balanced development of the dental arches.
Treatment Provided
A Haas appliance was used for correction. This orthodontic appliance is designed to expand the upper jaw.
The treatment goals included:
- widening the upper dental arch;
- creating space for permanent teeth;
- correcting the left-sided crossbite;
- guiding the lower jaw toward a more central position;
- improving midline alignment;
- creating conditions for more harmonious jaw and facial development.
The Haas appliance was fixed in place, followed by daily activation of the expansion screw according to the treatment plan.
Progress After 2 Months
A clear positive response was already observed during the first two months of treatment.
The upper dental arch became noticeably wider. The lower jaw began to move toward a more appropriate position, while the upper and lower dental midlines started to align more closely.
The severity of the crossbite decreased, and space began to form for the eruption of permanent incisors. These changes created more favourable conditions for continued jaw growth.

Treatment is ongoing. The next stage will include monitoring the eruption of permanent teeth and assessing whether further activation of the appliance is required.
