The patient was concerned about constant discomfort while chewing and the unaesthetic appearance of the teeth. Due to the crossbite, the chewing load was distributed unevenly, causing accelerated wear of the incisors and threatening enamel health. In addition, the mandibular shift led to facial asymmetry.
Doctor’s findings
During the examination, the following were noted:
- crossbite on the right side;
- inclination of the lower teeth to the right;
- improper closure of the dental arches;
- significant wear of the incisal edges of the front teeth;
- cant of the occlusal plane.
Such a combination of issues could lead to worsening aesthetics and the development of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction.
Treatment process
To correct the crossbite and normalize jaw function, the following steps were taken:
- correction of the lower jaw position;
- elimination of the rightward inclination of the lower teeth;
- even redistribution of spaces between the upper teeth to achieve proper overlap;
- temporary restoration of the worn incisal edges to restore correct tooth shape and protect them from further damage;
- establishment of proper bilateral occlusion, allowing even distribution of chewing forces.
Result
After treatment, the correct position of the lower jaw was achieved, occlusion was normalized, and the aesthetics of the smile were significantly improved. The crossbite was eliminated, and the load is now evenly distributed, reducing the risk of further tooth wear and ensuring comfort during chewing.
Why this is important
A crossbite is not just an aesthetic issue. If left untreated, teeth wear out faster, jaw joints experience increased strain, and chronic pain or clicking during chewing may develop. Over time, the risk of tooth loss due to overload also increases. Timely intervention helps prevent these complications and preserve the health of the entire dentoalveolar system.
All such cases at our clinic are managed by specialists with advanced training in orthodontics and gnathology. DentalDate doctors focus not only on aligning teeth but also on restoring the proper function of the jaws and temporomandibular joints.
