The patient presented with complaints of:
- Clicking in the joint
- Blockage of the jaw (inability to open the mouth)
- Chin displacement to the right
- Facial asymmetry
Her main goal was to improve the aesthetics of her smile and face.
An in-depth diagnostic workup was performed including MRI, CT scan, teleradiography and condylography. After data collection, test bytes were initiated.
A test byte is a kind of “fitting” of the future correct position of the jaw. Using the condylography tracks, the therapeutic position of the jaw is determined (when there is no compression in the joint) and the muscles are palpated. The procedure takes 1.5-2 hours.
After this stage, it is possible to make a splint or fixation of onlays for further orthodontic correction.
The most interesting thing is that the patient can see how his face will change at the end of the treatment. In this case, the patient was able to eliminate facial asymmetry and relax facial muscles.
