Treatment Plan:
- Initial consultation
- Condylography to visualize the location of the displaced disc
- Use of test bites to determine the therapeutic position of the lower jaw
- Fabrication of a repositioning splint to realign the disc
- MRI of the TMJ for precise monitoring of disc position
- Transfer of splint position to overlays
- Application of braces
- Use of elastics as a mandatory step for effective orthodontic correction
- Removal of the braces earlier than planned, at the patient’s request
Treatment Outcome:
The discs are now in the correct position within the joint, protecting it from degeneration (arthritis, arthrosis). The bite has been normalized, and the teeth now maintain the joint in its proper position—no need for splints or overlays anymore.
TMJ treatment represents the highest level of gnathology. It is a complex process that requires seamless collaboration within a highly skilled team and full patient engagement at every stage.
