One Dark Tooth Under an Old Crown: Restoring Smile Harmony

Sometimes patients come to us with concerns about their entire smile, but in other cases, the problem is focused on a single tooth. This was the case for our patient, who was concerned about one dark tooth in her smile zone.

Upon examination, we found that the discoloration was caused by an old porcelain-fused-to-metal crown on a central incisor. Over time, a grayish margin had appeared near the gum line, and the tooth no longer matched the adjacent teeth in color or shape.

We proposed a comprehensive aesthetic treatment in the smile zone, which included replacing the old crown and correcting the gum line for better symmetry.

As a result, the patient’s smile became harmonious: the color and shape were balanced, and the gums gained a proper, aesthetic contour.

Even a single dark tooth can greatly affect the perception of a smile. With modern techniques and a personalized approach, it is possible to fully restore aesthetics in such localized cases.
