Dental Crowding Correction and Restoration of Bite Height

The patient presented with dental crowding, a distal mandibular position, and reduced occlusal vertical dimension. Increased tooth wear was already present in association with the altered tooth positions and occlusal relationship.

Following treatment, proper tooth alignment was achieved, occlusal vertical dimension was restored, and the mandible was brought into a more appropriate position. This resulted in a more stable and physiological relationship between the upper and lower dentition.

Crowding Combined with Altered Mandibular Position

The initial condition involved more than irregular tooth alignment.

Clinical findings included:

These findings affected both the appearance of the dentition and the functional relationship between the upper and lower teeth.

Why Alignment Alone Was Not Enough

When occlusal vertical dimension is reduced, treatment needs to address more than the position of individual teeth.

The relationship between the upper and lower dentition, mandibular position, and distribution of forces during occlusion and mastication also need to be considered.

Increased tooth wear was already present in this case. Treatment therefore focused not only on alignment but also on establishing more appropriate functional relationships.

Main Treatment Objectives

Orthodontic correction addressed several related objectives:

  1. correction of dental crowding;
  2. improvement of tooth position;
  3. restoration of occlusal vertical dimension;
  4. correction of mandibular position;
  5. improvement of force distribution across the dentition;
  6. establishment of a more stable and functional occlusion.

This approach addressed both dental aesthetics and the functional characteristics of the bite.

Treatment Outcome

A significant functional and aesthetic improvement was achieved following treatment.

The outcome included:

The outcome therefore extends beyond tooth alignment. Restoring bite height and mandibular position created a more balanced relationship between the dental arches.

Tooth Wear as Part of the Initial Problem

Increased tooth wear was already present before treatment.

Correcting tooth position, restoring occlusal vertical dimension, and improving the way the teeth contact each other creates more favorable conditions for functional load distribution.

This is particularly relevant when malocclusion is already associated with visible tooth wear.

Treatment of Dental Crowding and Bite Problems at DentalDate

Dental crowding may be associated with altered bite height, mandibular position, and increased tooth wear. Orthodontic assessment should therefore consider not only tooth alignment but also occlusal relationships and function.

At DentalDate Dubai, orthodontic treatment is planned individually according to the clinical situation. The objective is not only to improve tooth alignment but also to establish more appropriate conditions for occlusion and dentofacial function.

If dental crowding is accompanied by tooth wear or changes in the bite, an orthodontic consultation can help determine the nature of the problem and an appropriate treatment strategy.
